Day One!

The other day I posted about 29-Day Giving Challenge. I have decided to take on the challenge and TODAY is day ONE!!

I had to give some thought to it. As the wheels were spinning, I decided that it was best for me to give things other than KLEAN items. (Don't worry, we will STILL have our regular giveaways). But since much of the KLEAN giving is also for promotional purposes (yes, the truth is out, I want EVERYONE to know about KLEAN, so I spread it around to promote the name--but that's just good business).

I am committing to give something: advice, energy, things I no longer use etc....for 29 days. I also think that I can give MORE than one thing per day. So off I go. I may post daily about what I gave and how it felt, but I know that in the past when I have committed to posting daily, I set myself up for failure...:-)

Today, August 1st, I have already given something. I was at Panera Bread ordering coffee and a bagel before I got started with my day. I was excited about my order (a Cinnamon Crunch bagel...OMG). After checking out with the lovely gentleman, I told him how much I love Panera! He said, "Great, if you want to talk about it, go to this website (where there is a survey)." Normally I wouldn't do this, but I went and filled out the survey. I didn't realize that there was a sweepstakes as well (that was just icing and I was just going there to spread the love)...

So, so far, that's it!!

Havin' a Staycation....A Tropical Staycation!

Ok. So who here doesn't want to travel anywhere because of high gas prices???? Me, me, me!!!!

So, what better thing to do than have a staycation!

One of my best friends and I just had a staycation vacation in our own backyard. (Except it was at her house and neither of us have a backyard). My friend Diane has been one of my closest friends for over 24 years. In the last several years, we try to go away together at least one weekend per year. Usually we go to Palm Springs. She is great at finding great deals on cute hotels.

This year, we decided that we would keep it cheap and stay here, in Los Angeles. Of course we didn't struggle finding anything to do, we just struggled in finding the few days to string together and actually take off work!

So this last Tuesday and Wednesday, I packed up my stuff (of course I overpacked--even for a staycation). We did what we always do on vacation. Lay around, watch TV and eat. We realized that no matter what, we do the same thing here as there, but this time it was without the gas and hotel fees! What a concept.

Yesterday, we booked ourselves a spa day at Burke Williams in Sherman Oaks, CA. Ahhhhh the spaaaaaaaaa! I had a Deep Tissue massage. I think I have bruises on my back today. It was gooooooood! Hurt me, a little more!

Anyway, Diane and I decided that we should do this staycation every quarter. It was inexpensive and I DID get some rest. As she says, the thing we know how to do well is lay around and do nothing (and we've been practicing for 24 years).

If you have the chance, take yourself a little staycation. Adios!

New Workspace!

I am SO excited!!
A little over two weeks ago, we moved into a new workspace.

The way it happened was a fluke! I was busy looking for a space. We weren't really ready to have our own storefront, but I was doing some footwork, anyway. I found something near my house that was available, but the rent was pretty high. I called my friend Paula Naples (of Pure Sense by Paula), and asked her about what she pays other than her lease amount. She recommended that I not do it. (Meaning get my own space). "It's a lot of money. [in general to rent a space]. Then she though of an idea! "Would you want to set-up your KLEAN operation in the back of my store?"

And the rest is history (a very recent history, but a history, none-the-less). The Saturday after our meeting, I began to move in! It is a perfect place for us to be right now. I will be selling our KLEAN products in the store and occasionally at the Farmers Market on Sundays.

I haven't taken any pics, yet, but I will post as soon as I do.

Friends with "Benefits"!

I recently posted about how hard it is to get out the door and visit friends in flesh and blood. But as I went through my calendar, I WAS able to tear myself away from the office FIVE times over the last month or so. And the "benefits" cannot be ignored.

I am lucky I live in a town with SO many entrepreneurial-driven gals!

I think I am going to do a 5-segment posting on these gals, cause I don't want to cut any of them short!

The first lunch I had was with Carrie Sommer of Sommer Designs. We met through a women's business group called Ladies Who Launch (I highly recommend them to anyone who wants, is or has launched a business.

We had lunch in Santa Monica, CA at Border Grill ...a favorite Mexican/South American restaurant of mine! The food there is SO yummy! We started with Green Corn Tamales and Guacamole. Then for lunch I had Turkey Tostadas...OMG..Yum! Then, for dessert, we shared one of my faves: Pastel Rufina...sweet, creamy, chocolate chunky, goodness. (Sounds like a KLEAN Sugar Polish...lol).

While we were there, Carrie said she would send me one of her Lavender Liners. And she did! While I am not a huge fan of lavender, I DO like it in certain situations. And this was one of them. You can place it in a drawer (I put it with my undies--probably too much info for you. :-) OR you could pack it in a suitcase to travel with and have lovely scented clothes when you arrive at your destination. What a great idea!! (Thank you, Carrie).

We were able to chat about our businesses and experiences, but had to part ways. I was so glad we made the time.

It's like another appendage! Our NEW labels....thousands and thousands of them....Here are a couple of pics of them....

We are currently looking for more wall-space in our "lab" to accommodate all of them! (We'll get back to you on that one!!).

This is the greatest thing! Filling orders in more expedient, and when you use our products, the water-exposed ones won't run or peel! We are glad to be able to offer you this!!

"Yeah" or "Yay"

This has been on my mind recently. As I mentioned yesterday, I have made many new friends via the cyber-world. As most of our communication takes place via e-mail, I have had a question about a few words: "Yeah" and "Yay." In order to show my excitement about a friend's good fortune, I have been using the word "Yeah," as I see many other people do. I read it as sounding like "Yay."

So with that confusion (I know it's not brain surgery) I had to go to Dictionary.com and look it up! The definition of "Yeah" helped me a lot, but there is also an audio option, which I found very cool. This word is pronounced "Yah." Maybe I was reading or writing it incorrectly and thinking it sounded like "Yay."

I know this may not seem incredibly important to you, but I like my exclamations to be correct. (For years I have been thinking one thing and "exclaiming" another.)

So, in short, now I know and I'll just say.....Yay!

Oh, How We Forget!

As you may have noticed, I have been attempting to update our blog fairly regularly.

I've even received responses from our wonderful readers, such as yourself, about several of the posts. That makes me feel great! It means, that the KLEAN Dish is actually being read, at least by a few people, and that makes it very satisfying.

One of the commenters requested that we fill you in on the "Huge Order" Since we posted that story about our anonymous order, it has come through, been produced, delivered and distributed to 35 stores. The tiny bit of information I didn't update you on was who the retailer was. Well, it was Borders (yes, as in Borders, Books & Music). The products hit the shelves in November and have been selling here and there across the country ever since. We let our newsletter subscribers know about it, but failed to inform you. We are sorry. We forgot....oopsie!

Which brings me to my point. I don't know about you, but do you find that the more you have going on, the less your little brain can retain. It's like it's a computer chip that only has enough room for 2 gigabytes. Once that's full, it starts to fail. It's slow in accessing information, like, "Who was in Midnight Cowboy?" Uhhhhhh, Yes! Jon Voight and Dustin Hoffman. But it took me a minute! Longer than it has in the past. The receptors aren't the young, spry things they used to be. And, well, neither am I.

It's too bad that we can't just download all the info we have up there and create more space. Or buy our brains an external "braindrive" that we can download to and plug into whenever we need more room!

Maybe that's what this blog is about. I sat down to tell you about our "huge order" and ended up, without planning it, to let it take a stream of consciousness moment. A sort-of download for my brain. I DO feel much clearer and ready for some new information. Perhaps that's the answer.

In the meantime, stop in a local Borders store, and look for us live and in person. We will be listing what stores we are in over the next few days.

They Weren't as "Desperate" As We'd Hoped...

Today, I took our yummy products to the set of "Desperate Housewives." I had the opportunity to set up during the crew's lunchtime--and got lunch, too! Our locale was in Bree's TV son's apartment kitchen.

As I walked in I announced to the Teamsters that I was here and they could get their body scrubs now! (Cause you know how burly men like to exfoliate). I set up, and it looked great! Did I take a picture? No! Silly me!

The "traffic" to our area was slower than I had hoped, but I did speak with some lovely gals who were just getting back on their feet since the writers strike ended.

All in all, it was a fun two hours, and a beautiful day here in SoCal!
